Celia K. Nelson, MD, FACS

Celia K. Nelson, MD, a board-certified general surgeon with UF Health Central Florida, performs many breast cancer surgeries, along with surgical procedures for patients with hernias and gallbladder, appendix and abdominal issues. The Jamaica native chose to become a surgeon while in medical school at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.

Dr. Nelson has been providing surgical care to Lake County residents since 1992. She performs a variety of general surgical procedures with an emphasis on breast disease.

Procedures performed by Dr. Nelson:

Breast (for cancer and noncancerous diseases):

  • Mastectomy, partial and total.
  • Biopsies.
  • Lumpectomies.
  • Catheter insertion for radiation.
  • Lymph node removal, including sentinel lymph nodes.

Hernia repairs:

  • Open and laparoscopic.
  • Abdominal.
  • Umbilical.
  • Inguinal.
  • Ventral.

Intestinal tract:

  • Open and laparoscopic.
  • Cancer and noncancerous diseases of the stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum and appendix and hemorrhoids.

Gallbladder removal:

  • Open and laparoscopic.


Skin and soft tissue:

  • Removal of lesions, tumors, growths, lumps and masses.
  • Skin cancers, such as melanoma, squamous cell and basal cell.
  • Repair of injuries.
  • Skin grafts.
